Yesterday travellers pitched up in the car park at Colets Health Club. Local residents informed us about the travellers, saying that there are 6 or more caravans on site. The police are aware of the situation and are doing their best to move them on.
One resident said, ‘We have a travellers site in colets car park! This isn’t good for the village!’
The gypsy/traveller’s were camped up at Ditton Common last night (Tuesday, 2 September), this was not authorised. The Council’s Gypsy/Traveller Liaison Officer was scheduled to visited the gypsy/travellers today Wednesday, 3 September, accompanied by the police to carry out an assessment required under the legal protocol for dealing with unauthorised gypsy/traveller sites. They will now be visiting their new location.
The Council will then progress papers in order to apply to the Court to repossess the land. A court hearing date will be set by the Court and will be known shortly.
The gypsy/travellers will be supplied with a refuse bin and our grounds maintenance contractor carries out site litter clearance where practicable. The site will be re-secured and any remaining litter completely cleared when the area is repossessed by the Council.
